Kilmer Parent Volunteers Needed for Finance Park!

20-25 volunteers needed each day in order to make this event a success for all of our students!

What is Finance Park?

This field trip will provide students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned about financial literacy in both their math and civics classes by participating in a practical budget simulation. Finance Park is sponsored by Junior Achievement.

When are the field trips to Finance Park taking place? 

All Kilmer Students will be visiting Finance Park between Monday March 13 and Thursday March 16, 2023. The date your student attends will be determined by who his or her Civics teacher is. Students of the following teachers will attend Finance Park on each of the following dates:

Monday, March 13               Mr. Collymore’s, Ms. Mujadidi’s and Mr. Paine’s students

Tuesday, March 14                 Ms. Jamshidi’s students, Ms. O’Dell’s students

Wednesday, March 15            Ms. Kleman’s students

Thursday, March 16                Ms. Hession’s students

Kilmer students will arrive at Finance Park at 9:30 am and will depart the facility at 1:30 pm.

What is involved in being a Finance Park volunteer facilitator?

Volunteer facilitators will need to attend training at Junior Achievement Finance Park at 8:15 am on the day of the field trip. This is approximately an hour before students arrive at the facility. The training is to ensure that all volunteer facilitators are able to provide guidance and assistance to students. Due to the nature of the Finance Park experience, volunteer facilitators will not be spending all day with the group including their son or daughter.

Additionally, volunteer facilitators will need to provide their own transportation to and from Finance Park, which is located adjacent to Frost Middle School. Frost is located at 4099 Pickett Road, Fairfax, VA 22032. Volunteer facilitators should bring a bag lunch, including a drink. Parking is available in front of the Finance Park building.

Logging In for the First Time:

1.    Navigate to www.myja.org/parents/fairfax and click the blue “Sign Up to Volunteer” button.

2.    At the bottom of the page, click on “Create New Account.”

3.    Choose a username and password that you will be able to remember and click “Next.”

4.    Fill out your profile, completing all boxes that are indicated as required by the asterisks.

5.    On the confirmation page, click “Next” to view available slots for upcoming dates.

Finding and Registering For Your School:

1.    In the top right corner, click the magnifying glass to open the search bar.

2.    Enter the name of your student’s school.

3.    Identify which date your student will be visiting JA Finance Park.

4.    Click “More” to see additional details on the volunteer experience. Or if you’re ready, click “Sign Up.”

5.    Read Junior Achievement’s Volunteer Conduct Standards Form & Social Media Policy and agree to it using the check box at the bottom of the screen.

6.    Registration complete! Check your email for a confirmation message containing the event’s details.
