Dear ___________________________ (insert School Board member name here):
(click here for a link to your school board member:http://www.fcps.edu/schlbd/members/bdmembers.shtml)

I am writing to ask you to support the Real Food For Kids healthy school food initiative. I understand that Fairfax County meets/exceeds the guidelines set forth by the USDA, but schools are still permitted to serve highly processed foods. I would like to send my children to school each day knowing that they are receiving foods that are free of artificial additives, preservatives, dyes, HFCS and other excess sugars, hydrogenated oils, and flavor enhancers such as MSG. I am in favor of more fresh fruits and vegetables, too.

With the high rate of obesity and diabetes that is affecting school children, the timing is very important. We need to start the change now, in line with other school districts around the country.

Fairfax County is a noted school district nationally. We should be at the forefront of this movement, and ensure our children have healthy, nutritious meals that help them maximize their academic achievement and attention during the school day.

Please consider voting to support the Real Food For Kids proposal.

Teacher's Luncheon

posted Nov 2, 2011 2:41 PM by Kilmer PTA

We're appreciating our FABULOUS Kilmer teachers a little differently this year.  Instead of having a full week of craziness in May, we're trying to do something special each month for our staff.  In September we did a Back to School Lunch.  In November we are planning a Soup -n- Salad Luncheon.  We need your help to make it a success.

Please sign up to bring either a salad or dessert on November 15th (by 9:30 am) to the teacher's lounge.  We understand for some of you this is logistically impossible so we are happily accepting cash donations to help pay for the soup, beverages, etc.
Please go to http://www2.mysignu.com/kilmer_ms to sign up.  You can donate money (sugguested amount is $10-$20) by either sending a check payable to KMS PTA to Dorothy Brown at 8230 Madrillon Estates Dr. ViennaVA 22182 or go to www.pay4schoolstuffonline.com.
If you've already signed up for an account than all you have to do is click on Donations - Teacher Appreciation and make your donation.

Thanks in advance to everyone who helps make our staff realize how appreciated they truly are on November 15!

Student Directories

posted Oct 26, 2011 11:27 AM by Kilmer PTA

Coming home on Oct. 26th - the much anticipated Kilmer Student Directory!!!  If you have joined the PTA and/or made a donation to the PTA your student will be receiving his/her Student Directory in their PAWS class.  Before emailing us that you didn't' receive your directory please do two things.  First, check your student's back pack.  We make no promises that your kids will remember to pass along the directory to you.  If it's not there, find a copy of your cancelled check or your P4SSO receipt.  Then please email Dianne Gurdak at dsgurdak@positek.net and we'll check to see if a directory was sent home with your child.

If you donated a total of $100 your Kilmer grocery bag will also be coming home today. Use them next time you shop at Giant and earn us Bonus Bucks!!!  Finally, if you ordered a magnet online and haven't received it yet, it should also be coming home today.  Again, let Dianne Gurdak know if any of these items are missing.

Thank you to everyone who has joined the PTA and/or donated!  We really need the other 775 of you to join and donate so we can make our revenue goals and get that lap top cart NOW while our kids still have an entire school year to take advantage of it.

Election Day: Nov. 8

posted Oct 26, 2011 11:23 AM by Kilmer PTA   [ updated Oct 26, 2011 11:23 AM ]

Thank you to those that were able to join us for the PTA meeting last Wednesday night.  It was very enlightening to hear the viewpoints of each of the seven candidates running for the three Member-At-Large positions.  For the many of you that were not able to attend the meeting, I hope you will find other venues to hear the candidates speak.  The election on November 8th is HUGE!  At least 6 members - which is one half - of the board member positions will turnover this year.  Our Providence District Representative - Patty Reed - is running unopposed.  But you do have a chance to influence the three Member-At-Large seats.  Please vote on November 8 and let your voice be heard.
