Thank you to all the parents who attended October's monthly PTA meeting! You passed the budget, approved the minutes from the previous meeting, and hung in there to listen to Ms. Judith Howard, TJ's Admissions Director.

From the PTA President Dear Parents, Welcome – or welcome back – to Kilmer Middle School and to the Kilmer Parent Teacher Association (PTA)! We strive for 100% of our parents joining the PTA - and every year, the vast majority do! Why join the PTA?
► To support our students –Our programs support the Kilmer core academic teams, elective departments, after-school activities, library, technology education, assemblies, field trips, and participation in national programs such as Reflections. The PTA publishes the School Directory and a monthly newsletter that is a “must read”. One hundred percent of your donation to the Kilmer PTA goes to support these programs.
► To be involved – The PTA is the primary source of volunteers to help the school. We provide hundreds of hours of service every year in a wide variety of roles. Review the PTA volunteer form, and decide how you want to be involved.
► To meet people – When you attend PTA meetings and volunteer, you meet your child’s friends, teachers, other involved parents, and the school staff and administration.
► To be “in the know” - Our fabulous Principal, Mr. Douglas Tyson, attends almost every PTA meeting and reports on current events at the school. Our PTA meetings also feature special speakers on important topics for teens, such as bullying, Internet safety, drug use, and the AP, IB, and Academy programs offered to our graduating students by Fairfax County high schools.
► For a voice -Membership in the PTA offers you the opportunity to participate in the local, state and national PTA organizations in issues with the potential to directly affect your child’s education, such as class size, school boundaries and standardized testing.
Thank you – and please join the PTA today! Our first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16th at 10 AM in the Group Instruction Room. Hope to see you there!
